Elephant and bamboo (acrylic on canvas)

Elephant and bamboo (acrylic on canvas)

Mature clumping bamboos in Nagarahole are so tall that they tower over the biggest of elephants. It is dark and quiet for the most part in these thickets, except when stems catch wind and produce the eeriest of sounds. The eeriness is only compounded by the fact that elephants and tigers can move in ghostly silence in these forests. The bamboo along the Kabini river are particularly old and tall, and there are always elephants there. Some of the fitter bulls resort to acrobatics in an effort to reach the highest leaves. This is an attempt to recreate a view that I have enjoyed so many times when approaching the foggy river from the dark forest.
